Course Description

The general English program focuses on the development of English language skills of international students from non-English speaking backgrounds, seeking for the development of their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, that are related to immediate personal, social, and academic needs. The course offers an approach that create an environment where language comes alive through interactive discussions, engaging activities, and real-world simulations while enjoying the Australian Culture.

Purpose 

The purpose of the course is to provide a General English course for students at the Beginners, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Upper-Intermediate levels. The course is designed to allow flexible entry and exit points in line with students’ English language proficiency levels. 

How Will I Be Assessed? 

You will receive on-going feedback on your progress through weekly assessments from your class teachers. Progress tests are held every ten weeks throughout the course. 

Course Aims 

General English will help you develop and improve your English skills for everyday situations including: 

• general communication skills 

• confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing English through tasks relevant to your interests 

• accuracy in speaking and writing through extending your knowledge of English grammar and pronunciation 

• an understanding of Australian society and culture through activities in the classroom and excursions to places of interest.
